Director of Sacred Music

Our parish is seeking a Director of Sacred Music. We are seeking someone who desires to follow the guidance of the Church in regards to sacred music in the liturgy, and who will work alongside the Pastor and parish leadership in fostering a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the liturgy through sacred music. 

“Sacred music, being a complementary part of the solemn liturgy, participates in the general scope of the liturgy, which is the glory of God and the sanctification and edification of the faithful”. Tra Le Sollecitudini, 1. Our hope is exactly this, to build and continue a sacred music program that glorifies God and sanctifies the faithful.

Main responsibilities of this role:

  • Provide organ music for parish liturgies–all weekend, Holy Day, and special feast days, including: Saturday 5:00pm and Sunday 8:00am and 10:00am liturgies, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, Holy Days of Obligation, and other special liturgies
  • Schedule all musicians for liturgies (choir, cantors, scholas, instrumentalists)
  • Schedule musicians needed for Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions, ensuring adequate prep/rehearsal time
  • Coordinate/lead rehearsals as needed
  • Become familiar with or grow in understanding of the rich musical tradition of the Church, and offer this to the parish (i.e. cultivate the practice of the norms put forward by the Church in the Roman MissalSacrosanctum ConciliumMusicam SacramSing to the Lord)

  • College degree or equivalent in music training and experience
  • Demonstrated music skills
  • Practicing Catholic
  • Knowledge of the structure of the Catholic Liturgy
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with parishioners, including flexibility and patience with both children and adult volunteers
